A m i r M a h y a r was born in Iran in 1974, and after initial education in his native country, he pursued his secondary education in Denmark where he studied at a specialist music high school. Further education continued aided by several scholarships from Denmark and Britain. Initially Amir Mahyar studied at the Academy of Music in Esbjerg where he gained his BMus in piano and pedagogy in 2001. In 2003 he gained a BMus in composition at Trinity College of Music in London, and in 2004 he gained an MA in composition at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London.
Amir Mahyar was successful in competition and received awards even from a young age. In both 1993 and 1994, he won second and first prizes at the Annual World Music Festival in Vejle, Denmark, and in 1996 he was nominated as the Foreign Artist of the Year in the same country.
In 2002 .Amir Mahyar was invited to compose a national anthem for the Iranian Scouts Society, and in 2003 he won first prize at the Biennial Competition for New Music at Tehran University for a composition for solo piano. In the same year he was awarded a Silver Medal for outstanding achievement at Trinity College of Music, presented by the Duke of Kent.
Amir Mahyar has collaboration with the Gahrn Ensemble in Denmark, and this group often performs his music in Denmark, Poland and Norway. Influenced by several cultures and styles, Amir Mahyar continues to write for many different soloists and groups around the world.
The Tetrakis String Quartet premiered Amir's string quartet at the City of London Festival in 2003 and the Ani Quartet from Armenia also performed this work in a Contemporary Music Festival for String Quartets in Tehran in 2005. In 2003 Amir Mahyar wrote a highly acclaimed solo harp work for the internationally renowned harpist Sioned Williams who premiered the piece in Iran. It is a measure of Amir Mahyar's talent that such a prestigious organisation as the BBC Symphony Orchestra has commissioned a concerto for Sioned to be performed in 2006 in London.
